The American Silver Eagle bullion coin program is very successful and has been since its inception in 1986. Dealers, collectors, and investors have made this an important coin and one of the most desired bullion coins worldwide.
The 1991 American Silver Eagle coin contains One Troy Ounce of .999 Fine Silver. It competes well with other One Troy Ounce Silver coins in the world marketplace.
The obverse of the American Silver Eagle coin depicts a nice rendition of Adolph Weinman’s ‘Walking Liberty’ design, which was used on our circulating Half Dollar coinage between 1916 and 1947.
The reverse of the coin depicts a rendition of the Heraldic Eagle design, which was also used on early US Silver Dollars from 1798 to 1804. There is an eagle as the central vignette. The eagle has upswept wings, arrows and olive branches in the talons, a shield covering the body and 13 stars arranged above the eagle. There is a small banner in the eagle’s beak and on it is inscribed “E PLURIBUS UNUM.” Around the periphery are the mottoes, ”UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,“ and “1 OZ. FINE SILVER - ONE DOLLAR.”
