2006 1 oz Silver Eagle NGC MS69
The American Silver Eagle bullion coin program began in 1986 so the 2006-dated coins represented twenty years of minting. It was an incredibly successful program – the coins were reasonably priced, they were backed by the full faith and credit of the United States government, they were struck at the US Mints, and the coins had beautiful designs.
The obverse design was the extremely popular Walking Liberty design. It had been used on our half dollar coinage between 1916 and 1947. This beautiful design was created by Adolph Weinman, and it was extremely popular.
An allegorical representation of Miss Liberty strides across the obverse of the coin going to the viewer’s left. She is wearing flowing robes around her but an American flag is draped across both of her shoulders. Her right hand is extended forward, while her left arm clutches bundles of olive branches. The date the coin was struck is displayed on the lower periphery, underneath Miss Liberty. On the upper periphery is the word “LIBERTY.” In the right open field is the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST.”
The reverse uses US Mint Chief-Engraver John Mercanti’s depiction of a design first used on US Silver Dollars during 1798 to 1804. The Heraldic Eagle is a large American bald eagle that has its wings outstretched and pointing upwards. The body of the eagle has a shield in front of it, symbolizing strength and protection. The eagle’s talons are filled with implements of war and peace. One talon is clutching arrows, while the other is holding an olive branch. Above the eagle are 13 five-pointed stars that are neatly arranged in formation. Adorning the upper periphery are the words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.” On the lower periphery are the words “1 OZ. FINE SILVER – ONE DOLLAR.”
This coin has been graded by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) and the insert displays the grade – MS69. NGC grades, authenticates, and encapsulates coins and their grading is widely accepted. The MS69 grade means that this coin is only one point away from perfection.
