In 2011, the United States Mint celebrated the 25th anniversary of the American Silver Eagle. For 25 years, the striking of these American Silver Eagle bullion coins was an incredible success. Many new collectors and investors came into the marketplace due to the appearance, availability, and affordability of these beautiful coins. The coins were struck in .999 Fine Silver, and each weighed exactly One Troy Ounce. The obverse of these coins utilized artist Adolph Weinman’s famous ‘Walking Liberty,’ design. This design was successfully used on the 1916 through 1947 Walking Liberty half dollar coin series.Miss Liberty walks to the viewer’s left, her right hand outstretched in a gesture of friendship, while her left arms cradles bunches of olive branches. She is wearing flowing robes as she walks in front of a rising sun. The word “LIBERTY,” adorns the top periphery, while the motto in the open right field says, “IN GOD WE TRUST.” The date of striking the coin is below. The reverse depicts a Heraldic Eagle design created by Chief Engraver John Mercanti. A large eagle is the central image, with its upswept and outstretched wings. There are arrows in one of the talons and olive branches in the other. Thirteen stars are arranged above the eagle and on the upper periphery is “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” and “1 OZ. FINE SILVER - ONE DOLLAR,” is on the lower periphery. The insert of this coin states “EAGLE 25th ANNIVERSARY – 2011 W EAGLE S$1,” and the coin is graded “PF 69, ULTRA CAMEO,” by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC). NGC is a major, independent, third-party, grading service. NGC’s grading is well-respected worldwide.
