The American Silver Eagle bullion coin program was begun in 1986. It was the American response to the worldwide demand for bullion coins and it served the need very well. The coins were struck out of .999 Fine Silver and each coin weighed One Troy Ounce. The coins carried the One Dollar denomination and all of them utilized the same design. The US Mint wisely chose for the obverse of this new bullion coin, the Adolph Weinman design of the “Walking Liberty,” which was successful on circulating and proof half dollars issued between 1916 and 1947.Miss Liberty walked to the left as the sun rose behind her. She extends her right hand in friendship, but her left arm clutched a bundle of olive branches. Her flowing robes partially obscure the American flag around her shoulders. “LIBERTY,” adorns the upper periphery, while “IN GOD WE TRUST,” fills the right open field. The year of striking the coin is on the lower periphery.The reverse depicts a Heraldic Eagle with upswept wings and a shield covering its body. There are 13 stars arranged above it and there are arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other. The upper periphery displayed “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” and the lower had “1 OZ. FINE SILVER - ONE DOLLAR,”This coin is a 2022-W American Silver Eagle, graded as ‘Proof 69, Ultra Cameo.’ It was graded by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) and encapsulated by them as well. NGC is one of the major coin grading companies in the world. It authenticates, grades, and encapsulates coins and renders their opinion of grade.
