2023 King Charles III Coronation Sovereign Proof

History

Signifying the dawn of a new era in British history, the celebration of the coronation of King Charles III took place on May 6, 2023. His reign follows that of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, who ruled for over 70 years. Charles III is the latest in a very long line of monarchs to appear on this iconic coin.
In honor of this historic event, the Royal Mint struck a small number of official Coronation Sovereigns that quickly sold out.

Design

The obverse displays a crowned portrait of The King in commemoration of his landmark coronation ceremony, exclusively designed by Martin Jennings for The Royal Mint. The Coronation Sovereign 2023 Collection marks the first time Sovereign coins have featured a crowned effigy of King Charles III.
The reverse design features the classic St George and the dragon design by Benedetto Pistrucci, continuing the long-standing tradition of this image appearing on The Sovereign coin.
This coin is struck in proof condition and comes in a beautiful display box with a Certificate of Authentication and a detailed booklet recounting the coronation ceremony and The King’s lifelong journey to the throne.
