The Perth Mint, located in Perth, Australia, is the oldest mint in Australia. In 1986, the Perth Mint began striking a series of coins called the “Gold Nugget” series. Those coins depicted a few well-known large gold nuggets from Australia. But in 1989, the Perth Mint went in an entirely different direction. The struck coins that depicted the most well-known animal on the Australian continent and they had the foresight to continually change the design in order to allow people to collect many different views all in the same series.Due to the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, a new monarch would be depicted on all British Commonwealth coinage. The new monarch was her son, the former Prince Charles. He became King Charles III, and his effigy began appearing on some 2023 and all 2024 and later coinage. The obverse of this coin now depicts the Dan Thorne effigy of King Charles III. The portrait of the new monarch faces the left and he is dressed in a business suit. Around the periphery is “CHARLES III – AUSTRALIA – 15 DOLLARS.The reverse of the coin depicts a large Kangaroo, who is about to jump over a dry creek bed. In the background are a windmill supplying power and a water storage tank, both of which are commonplace on Australian farms. Around the periphery are “1/10 OZ 9999 GOLD – KANGAROO – P125.” The P-125 is an abbreviation for “PERTH 125” which stood for the name of the mint and the fact that it was the Perth Mint’s 125th anniversary. The maximum mintage was 200,000 coins.Simply click the “Add to Cart” button now or call to speak to one of our highly trained numismatists, who will be very happy to assist you.
