2024 1/2 oz Gold Australian Kangaroo (BU)
History
The Perth Mint is a highly respected worldwide mint, located in Perth, Australia. Their products are well-known for high-quality and innovation. The Perth Mint created a bullion program in 1986, the same year that the US Mint began the American Gold Eagle bullion coin program.
The program began in 1986 by depicting a famous gold nugget on the reverse but gold nuggets are not as popular as cute animals are. So, in 1989, the Perth Mint opted for a Kangaroo to adorn the reverse of the coin.
In fact, every year there is a new Kangaroo design, and that vert fact entices collectors and dealers to the new Kangaroo! The coins are struck in .9999 Fine Gold and this Brilliant Uncirculated coin is limited to a maximum of 100,000 to be struck.
Design
The obverse depicts the Dan Thorne effigy of the new monarch – King Charles III and he is facing to the left and dressed in a business suit. The coin is inscribed “CHARLES III – AUSTRALIA – 50 DOLLARS.”
The reverse depicts a large Kangaroo jumping over a creek bed. In the background are a windmill and a water storage tank. The reverse side is inscribed with “2024,” “1/2 OZ .9999 GOLD,” “KANGAROO,” and “P125,” which stands for the Perth Mint and 125th anniversary.
