In 1986, the United States Mint began striking American Silver Eagle bullion coins. The design remained unchanged for 35 years. The obverse depicted the Walking Liberty design, created by Adolph Weinman for half dollars struck between 1916 through 1947. The reverse was created by John Mercanti, the Chief Engraver for the United States Mint. These designs were used for several months in 2021. The reverse design was changed later in the year.This first design utilized an allegorical depiction of Miss Liberty walking towards the viewer, in front of a rising sun with rays coming out of it. She is adorned in flowing robes and an American flag. She is carrying an olive branch to represent peace, as this was designed while war was raging in Europe, but the United States remained neutral. Surrounding Miss Liberty is the word “LIBERTY,” above, the motto, “IN GOD WE TRUST,” to the right, and the current date is below. Mercanti was inspired to utilize a version of an American Heraldic Eagle. The eagle has a banner in its beak on which is inscribed “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” with 13 five-pointed stars arranged above the eagle. The mottoes surround the eagle as follows, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “ONE OUNCE FINE SILVER,” and “ONE DOLLAR,”This coin was graded by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC), which is one of the major, independent, third-party grading service. NGC graded this coin as Proof-70, which is the highest possible grade. It is in perfect condition. NGC also determined that the coin is an ULTRA CAMEO which means that the fields of the coin are perfect and extremely highly reflective. They have an almost ‘black and white; appearance with frosted devices and mirrored fields. The coin was struck out of .999 Fine Silver. The condition is absolutely in PERFECT condition.
