Between 1986 when the American Silver Eagle bullion coin program was begun and 2021, a term of 35 years, the design on these very important coins had not changed. The obverse of all of these millions of coins depicted the exact same thing. The obverses depicted the much loved and respected ‘Walking Liberty’ design used on half dollars between 1916 and 1947.Designed by Adolph Weinman, who also designed the classic Mercury Dime design, the Walking Liberty design depicted an allegorical representation of Miss Liberty walking to the left. She is adorned in flowing robes and an American flag is wrapped about her shoulders. A radiant sun rises behind her as she extends her right hand in friendship. The word “LIBERTY,” adorns the top periphery. “IN GOD WE TRUST,” is visible in the right field and the date the coin was struck is on the bottom periphery. From January into April, the reverse design was the same one utilized since the coins inception in 1986. It was the Heraldic Eagle design by Chief engraver John Mercanti. This is known as the ‘T1’ design, meaning the ‘Type 1,’design.But part-way through April, the reverse suddenly sported a brand new design. Now an American eagle, in flight, appears. It carries an oak branch in its talons as it begins to land. Designed by Canadian-American artist, Emily S. Damstra, the coin was heralded for its natural style and the beautiful motion of the eagle. Around the eagle were the mottoes “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “ONE DOLLAR – 1 OZ. FINE SILVER,” and above the weight is “E PLURIBUS UNUM.” This new design is called the ‘T2’ of ‘Type 2,’ design. This coin is a 2021-W American Silver Eagle, Eagle Landing, T-2, graded as ‘Proof 69, Ultra Cameo.’ It was graded by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) and encapsulated by them as well. NGC is one of the major coin grading companies in the world. It authenticates, grades, and encapsulates coins and renders their opinion of grade. The ‘Proof 69,’ grade indicates that the coin is one point away from perfection, while the designation ‘Ultra Cameo,’ means that the coin has a great contrast from the mirrored fields and the frosted devices.Simply click the “Add to Cart” button now or call 1-866-827-4314 to speak to one of our highly trained numismatists, who will be very happy to assist you.
