History
The American Gold Eagle bullion coin program began in 1986. The coins were issued in One Troy Ounce ($50 Face Value), One-Half Troy Ounce ($25), One-Quarter Troy Ounce ($10), and One-Tenth Troy Ounce ($5), sizes and values.
Design
The coins all had the exact same design. The obverse was a modern rendition of the Augustus Saint-Gaudens $20 Gold Double Eagle design, a design that is often called the most beautiful coin that America ever created.
The reverse depicted Miley Busiek’s Family of Eagles design from inception in 1986 through 2021. But also in 2021, the reverse design was changed part-way through the year.
The new design was created by Jennie Norris and is displayed a closeup view of the head of an American Bald Eagle.
These coins are 2024-dated $5 Face Value American Gold Eagle 1/10th Troy Ounce coins. Their purity and integrity are guaranteed by the United States.
The coins are struck in 22 carat gold (.9167 Fine Gold), but each coin is guaranteed to contain One Tenth of a Troy Ounce of pure gold.
